World Music Day by LACM
June 21, 2025 | Bay Street Studio, DTLA Arts District | 1909 Bay St, Los Angeles, CA 90021
From soloists to ensembles, audiences journey through curated stages, culminating in a powerful concert experience celebrating global musical traditions through live performance, cultural storytelling, and audience dialogue. Inspired by the World Expo of 1889, when Claude Debussy first encountered the mesmerizing sounds of Indonesian Gamelan music reshaping his compositional sound moving forward. World Music Day pays tribute to the appreciation of cross-cultural musical exchange as interpreted by LA-based musicians.
PROGRAM

We expand the network of creativity among artists — giving performers the chance to experience the music they love in new, collaborative ways, and to share it with the public through formats that reflect their voice and values.
Each featured performance is followed by an interactive discussion, where artists share their personal connection to their instrument, the cultural or historical significance of the piece they are performing, and what it means to be a classical musician rooted in Los Angeles’ dynamic artistic landscape.
Through the voices and talents of LA based classical musicians — shaped by historic disciplinary performance training and inspired by their own cultural roots as well as global musical traditions — audiences are invited to embark on a journey of sound, story, and shared connection.

Our Talents say
Performing at WineMusic through LACM was unlike any concert experience I've ever had. For the first time, I felt that classical music wasn’t just being listened to — it was being felt and shared in real time, with genuine curiosity and connection from the audience.
What LACM has created isn’t just a concert — it’s a movement that reinvents how classical music is experienced. As a performer, it reignited my passion for programming and storytelling. I felt free to experiment, to communicate directly with the audience, and to be seen as both an artist and a collaborator.
